Stumptown Stringband along with caller Andy Grummon will be coming down from Portland so we get a little taste of the hot Portland dance scene!
- Stumptown Stringband is an absolute blast to dance to. Front and center is Annie Staninec, who brings driving rhythm and joyful exuberance to every show. She has performed in over 20 countries and is on countless recordings in a variety of musical styles. She will be joined by the amazing Maggie Lind, who makes her living performing and teaching old-time banjo and guitar and calling dances throughout the Northwest, as well as John Kael and Patrick Lind, both multi-instrumentalists who bring decades of experience to the stage. https://stumptownstringband.com/
- Andy Grummon is a banjo player and square dance caller living in Portland. The highlight of their square dance career was calling a gender inclusive dance at the Q Center in 2019. Andy’s goal is to create a supportive and fun dance environment in the service of bringing the joys of square dance to those who may have been traumatized by middle school gym class.
Costs at the WOW Hall have increased substantially for us, but we have a generous benefactor who has agreed to match all donations to help us put on this community dance! Double your donation amount and help support the musicians and callers who put in countless hours honing their skills. Make your donation here and make sure you mention “matching funds” in the notes field so your dollars will DOUBLE! You can also help by spreading the word far and wide. Your presence is key… Spread the word & bring some friends!!!
Old-time community square dancing is taught by the caller, so you don’t need any experience, special clothing or even a partner. This event is for all ages and abilities, and features gender-free calls.
Come get down at the hoedown!
