Come join us for a community dance at our own historic Spencer Creek Grange! Tunes for the February 22nd dance will be provided by Feral Chicken Stringband with Melissa Takush (and maybe a few special guests) calling. Old-time community square dancing is taught by the caller, so you don’t need any experience, special clothing or even a partner. This event is for all ages and abilities, and features gender-free calls.
We have had generous support from Bubbaville up in Portland to help us continue a series of dances that were so fun at the WOW hall! If you can’t make it this time but value the dances in the community, consider making a donation in any amount to help support the musicians, callers and the venue who have been very generous in sharing their space with us! Make your donation here. You can also help by spreading the word and bringing some friends and family! We can’t wait to see you there!
Our Mission in the Community
Mud City Old-Time Society is dedicated to supporting old-time music and dance in the Southern Willamette Valley. We are a progressive, inclusive community that sponsors concerts, workshops, jams and square dances open to people from any background and experience level. If you are interested in the power of participatory music and social dance, we invite you to come play and dance with us!
Music for Everyone
As a precursor to bluegrass, old-time string band music is acoustic and lively. We host concerts, workshops and a variety of jams that welcome new players just getting started, as well as more experienced players wanting to play more up to speed.
Have a Dance With Us
Our square dances always feature live bands as well as callers who teach everything you need to know on the spot. You don’t need any special clothes or even a partner—there will be plenty of fun folks to dance with. Check out our events to learn more!
